Business Optimism Index
The D&B Business Optimism Index (BOI) is a quarterly business outlook as measured by the results of a survey conducted among a sample group of executives and business owners selected from D&B’s commercial file. It is widely recognized as an indicator measuring the pulse of the business community, providing useful insights for decision makers and serving as a reliable benchmark for investors. It will be one of the most effective ways to keep track of where the Philippine economy is moving according to how businesses think.
Respondents to the survey cut across industry sectors, and are interviewed about their outlook or expectations for the succeeding quarter on six key business parameters, namely Volume of Sales, Net Profits, Selling Prices, New Orders, Inventories and Number of Employees. Respondents are tasked to rate whether their respective companies will experience an increase, decline or show no change in the ensuing quarter as compared to the same quarter in the prior year. The individual indices are then calculated by subtracting the percentage of respondents expecting decreases from the percentage expecting increases. The survey is done usually two weeks before the coming quarter.
